WHAT'S YOUR STYLE? BY KAITLIN LOVERN

Are you traditional, transitional, modern or mid century modern? If you’re not sure, check out the tips below to see where you fall. And don’t worry, if you fall in love with a style and feel the need to move, we know some (great) real estate agents who have worked with these styles in the past.

Traditional
What we picture:
Warm wood tones, antique furniture, subtle floral patters, arched entries, artisan rugs, heavy crown molding, bronzed chandeliers, neutral colors.

What we know:
The traditional style stems back to the 18th century and gives the 20th century “modern” style a run for it’s money. At the end of the day, a traditional style is about creating a welcoming, warm and balanced interior. A traditionalist likes symmetry, curves, textured fabric and maybe a warm cup of team in the parlor on a foggy day.

What we recommend:
If traditional is the style for you, then incorporate some of the aspects in the photo below into your own home. We especially love the detailing on the crown molding and the fireplace.

Transitional

What we picture:
White, neutral floors, backsplash, statement accessories, crisp curtains, mat frames, more white, reclaimed wood, trendy wallpaper.

What we know:
The transitional style really is the best of both worlds. A little bit of modern, a little bit of traditional and a lot of prettiness. It should bring ease and cleanness to the home, while offering aspects that are both masculine and feminine. A transitionalist likes the “less is more” concept and doesn’t mind taking the risk of dirty shoes on all the white furniture.

What we recommend:
Everything in this picture below. We can’t get enough of the white cabinets (obviously because they are white) and the bold lighting that catches our eye.

Modern

What we picture:
Strong neutrals, clean lines, uncomfortable-looking furniture (that is actually comfortable), tall ceilings, abstract art, light wood, industrial lighting, natural light.

What we know:
The modern style arose during a specific time period, often referenced as the time were pre-industrial revolution rules were all broken in design. Although the terms are commonly used interchangeably, “modern” is more specific to an age of style than “contemporary” is. Modernists like art, shapes and standing out from the crowd.

What we recommend:
If modern style is calling your name, take some inspiration from this kitchen below. Notice all those straight, clean lines? We do too.

Mid Century Modern

What we picture:
Pops of color, tall windows, sliding doors, whimsical accents, eclectic chandeliers, colored tiles, flat roofs, split-levels, anything “retro” looking.

What we know:
Mid Century Modern style came about during the 1940s to 1970s during a time where people were encouraged to eat outside and become one with nature. A Mid Century Modern home can often be seen from both the outside and the inside of the house, as it’s architectural style is very unique. Mid Century Modernists like to watch Mad Men and can tell you all about Andy Warhol’s best work.

What we recommend:
These walls, ceilings, chairs, art, etc. This room just about sums it up and we can’t believe how much fun we feel like we would have eating lunch in it.
